Any recommendations? I did this course in 2003 but never wrote the exams. I know it's not the greatest qualification but would like to finally pass. The 2003 books even covered crap like Win 3.1 and Token Ring. Is it still the same? Which books should I get and where?

One can google that and find all the info you need. Also google Professor Messer's CompTIA A+. I am in the same boat, and considering doing this next year. So far his stuff seems pretty cool. Hope thats a good start!

Didn't this change now? You have to redo the exams like yearly or something, unless you got your A+ before a certain date..

You can buy my book if you want.

Looking at about R1000 but make me an offer if you do want it. Used it once or twice. Still have the CD attached to the book

Thanks guys. I called CompTIA earlier. The story is that if you wrote the exam before the start of this year then you are safe. If you get your certification now, you have to write the exam every three years. There is also an admin fee of $25 a year. Complete BS. Up yours CompTIA.

the exam is what, R1800? then you buying the book for R863~?
save your money, thats R2500+ for a certification which has zero weight unless you want to build pcs or work in the repair shop at incredible connection

That's what I'm worried about. Working two jobs at the moment. Doing OK as an IT reseller, then work another job at night. Even though I am doing OK, I feel a bit lost without any post matric qualification. Any recommendations?

Just go straight for MCITP, get hold of the courseware and write the exams
A+ is just pouring money into a blackhole imho, you wont see any return
