OK, I have just started learning about photography (big mistake, I thought it would be cheaper than golf
) and I am just trying to understand something with regard to depth of field and the various camera settings.
Correct me if I am wrong: If I want to have both foreground and background and object in focus then I use a high f-stop (small aperture). What I want to know is WHY? Why does a high f-stop do this and a low one does not. All my googling ends up with just the statement that to have more DOF use a high f-stop or variations thereof. I want to know what happens to the light that this is so.
