I have windows xp..right
I have a usb wifi dongle
I have a serial port gprs modem plugged into my serial port
I have built in lan on my pc

ok here is the million dollar question
How can i make an wireless access point with this dongle

Let me make an example
I want to connect a pda to the pc via the usbwireless dongle via the gprs modem and then get internet on my pda,it will be slow but i dont mind as i only want my mail.

i have posted a topic like this and there seems to be no one on this forum that know how to do this, and let it work
so ppl help a brother out.

Setup an ad-hoc wireless network on your pc, enable internet connection sharing, assign the pc and pda IP addys, connect to the wireless network from your PDA and surf. Thats how I did it.

did not work /ok this is what i want to do
like i said in the start of the thread
I want my usb dongle to tranmit the gprs internet out.like an access point
A dummy one
I know it can be done
So what i really wont is my dogle must be like an access piont for any wifi device i have.

check your registry for a key called "enableap" (enable access point) normally within the subkey of the wireless utility.
set this to 1, and you should find a new tab appear on your wireless utilty applet (assuming you arent using microsoft zeroconf) calles "access point" where you can enter the ssid etc that you want your fake accesspoint to be, and it does work

i am vague on purpose, as the last time i did this was very long ago, but it was true for belkin cards and any cards using a broadcom chipset.

ok, because I am a nice guy I dug out my wlan card and installed it so I can show how this works.

screenshot 1: installed as per normal, with regedit open showing the keys...there is a key called EnableSoftAP currently set to 0. See the tabs on the applet also...

second picture, showing the registry key changed to a 1 and the new tab on the applet called Access POint with the options available

like I said, only checked this with broadcom and belkin stuff, but it is probably available on more chipsets...

your hardware may not be able to act as an AP

i bought a nice cheap canyon stick for R200 and it has the AP functionality built into it
