Thought I'd post my observations from using the phone for a week now, unbiased of course :P

Looks: it's gorgeous! Really really stunning looking and not just by geek standards. Every person who lays eyes on it wants a second look. Not that you'd buy it for other people to ogle, but on the same note, it's pleasing to look at and hold when you use it, which just makes it that much sweeter to use.

Reception: I stuck a capdase cond@m case on it and it's behaved pretty well. Like any cellphone in our country, there is loss of signal in some areas, poor reception etc. But I've never had a total signal drop with the inconvenience of waiting five minutes or moving around to find better reception. The phone usually drops to edge and reception gets back to normal till it can find a 3G signal again.
Call quality is really great though! Really clear and loud.

New features: the retina display is very clear and bright, and I'm just enjoying the crispness of the display. It's not about wow factor or tech specs, it's just easy to read, and works well even in bright sunlight.

The camera is ok, good enough for the odd memorable moment but seems a sensitive to shaky hands - lots of blurry shots when you hands shake.

Conclusions:
If your expecting the second coming or some other ridiculous hype, sorry your not gonna find that here.
It's just a better, faster and longer lasting ( in terms of battery) iPhone.
It feels expensive and a bit fragile and your not gonna treat it very carelessly like you possibly did with your 3G/3GS..
The hype and new gadget feel will wear off in a few days of good usage,
But thankfully what's left is the most usable iPhone os yet, even more great apps, and a sleek integrated package that will let you work on it and pay when you want.

I'm happy with it.
