Big e-toll betrayal

Nearly a year after the South African government announced a plan to shut down e-tolls, Gauteng motorists are still paying for the defunct scheme.

During his medium-term budget policy statement on 23 October 2022, finance minister Enoch Godongwana revealed that the government had decided on an alternative funding mechanism to pay the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project's (GFIP's) debt.
 
why is this news? we all knew the Etolls wont go away, the printers that print endless reams of bills need to be fed somehow,
the gantries that miraculously still standing and havent been burned/hacked/damaged/stolen

we all knew it was never going away, why do people believe the government has OUR best interests at heart?
they belive in enriching themselves and Etolls was a brilliant solution to collect that money.
 
If the public is willingly paying for this, I see no problem. Keep eTolls in place if the income justifies it.
 
Road users were never paying for it anyway, taxpayers were. Nothing has changed and road users are still not paying, so Gov achieved it's objective.
 
When I mentioned that the e-Tolls had not been scrapped as the legal framework had not yet been changed right after the announcement I was shot down by Outa and told that YES THE ETOLLS HAVE BEEN SCRAPPED. Lesufi is not competent when it comes to actually doing things legally correct but enjoys bluster and noise and pretending to do things for the cameras and social media, just look at the crime wardens that have not been trained according to any standards and are still "training" despite being "deployed" with much fanfare months ago. Lesufi and Mr Fix Fokkol went on the same social media training course.

@TheChamp will be upset you speaking about his bra like that. Lesufi does good work.. and honest man... just need to squint, really hard to see it... or something like that.
 
...nope, like SABC TV Licenses, I don't give a Rat's if they scrap it or keep it...
Doesn't bother me...
 
somebody explain to me in a country where manhole cover's and DB Boards are stolen,
how is it those stupid gantries with their bug zapper lighting and cameras are still standing, and haven't been torn down.
seems like a hell of an oversight to me.
 
At least they've been closing some of the e-toll stores at the expensive malls.

SO when will Outa Court cases be heard , or did they just stop everything because gov made promises
