Aaaarrrrggh! e46 320d vs e46 330d Which 1

First off - that '03 320d? Were you going to pay 85k for that car?.... Yes I was

Yew, yew, yew! Send your cousin a thank you drink in the post ;)

Someone else posted here earlier about an e90 for R120k didn't they?

Also to P924, was it? Sorry on phone. That loo-roll breather jobby, I swapped mine out for the e90 all plastic breather. Works like a charm.

Yup - you can swap it out with the later vortex type - it would be a good choice. The loo-roll is technically better, but only if you do the maintenance on it.

The manual gives a bit better consumption in town, on the open road, it is much the same. None of them are "gas guzzlers".

Thanks all....so what im basically getting from is that I currently own a refurbished/reconditioned Jetta 3 Mp9. So with the thoughts or painting that is being put in my head is that the 330d should be lighter on fuel than my current vechile. Well, I suppose you can't really compare the two, I mean Petrol and Diesel:rolleyes::o

Cant wait to get +- 1000kms on a tank!!!! Whoooooooooooweeeee

With my 320d, I drove to Durban from Pta. 650kms. At that point in time the computer indicated that I can do another 660kms. With my current Audi 2.0TDi, I drove to PE from Pta on one tank - 3 adults and a boot packed to the brim. You'll love diesek!

So hang on...so you saying you can get 1200 kms on a tank? With the BMW 320d? Wow that's polo figures...with a lot more car!

If I remember, I will search for the pics I took and post it here. And it is over 1300kms ;)
I was alone in the car on that trip. Fabulous vehicle....

On long trips, you'll be doing that all day.
I drove 750km from CPT to PE, one passenger, aircon on all the way, averaging 140kph most times - got into PE with a quarter tank left and 250km still showing on the OBC range.

My driving around town now, which sees me getting between 800-900km on 1 tank is due to a very laid back and defensive driving style.

I try to keep the car between 60-70kph on urban roads, freeways at about 80-90kph.
And I've also learned (cos I've got a steptronic box) to get up to speed in urban areas and then just take my foot off and cruise to the next corner. Instead of keeping my foot down, heavy braking, yada yada.

It takes me a bit longer to get somewhere, so I give myself more time for the journey if I need to be somewhere at a certain time - but the numbers make me :D

Solomon - as for Auto vs Manual: I'm getting my consumption figures from an Auto.
Manuals are nicer for nailing through the gears when your right foot wants to get heavy - but Sport Mode does that for me just fine.

In a 330d - you're bound to have fun either way :D

Oh... I am certainly not trying to convince you to get the 320d. Although it is a great car all round, I would pick the 330d every day of the week and twice on a Sunday. The power is awesome and it goes like the Stig. Take the 330d if you can.

+1 -> i'm still tempted to go for a dump valve and remap on my 320d - but I think even though I love the torque, I want some 2.5L or 3.0L NA Petrol gusto - that's why the Z4 is on my radar.
But I've still gotta research it properly - more often than not, I'm always impulse buying :/

Going for a test drive on Monday on a silver manual 330d manual with 120k on the clock. Wish me luck:D...

Taking my mechanic friend from motolek with...
Promised him a streetwise 3 meal lol.

Hey Guys.

I own a BMW e46 330d, and lately it has been taking out a lot of black smoke when I accelerate, also its heavy on fuel and lost alot of power. I took it in for diagnosis and nothing comes out on the computer. The mechanic suggested that it was an injector failure. I have over 200km on the clock. I asked him if it wasn't the turbo but he said no because it wasn't taking out white smoke. At the moment I'm looking to recorn or clean my injectors but I don't know where. I can't afford new ones at the moment so I don't really have a choice ☹ï¸â˜¹ï¸â˜¹ï¸.
If anyone has experienced a similar problem please let me know and if you know someone who can help me with my injector problems please let me know. I'm located in joburg at the moment.
