Hey

So today i got a notice in the mail to go collect a fine at the post office. which raised some queries:

Number 1: i got a fine in pretoria on the 2nd march for reverse lights not working, after the officer wrote me up he decided to leave me with a warning as it was just fused bulbs needing replacing. i did NOT sign the fine. he did however write all my details address etc on the fine. after searching on fnb banking site it showed 1 fine on my name which just so happens to be the one for the light, how do i go about this now since i was let off with a warning and did NOT sign the fine?

Number 2: does one still get a fine in the mail from being pulled off and a fine written out on the side of the?

the reason for the questions is that the above mentioned car in on my parents name but the fine is view-able on my ID number obviously since it was written out, if the notice is NOT for that fine it can then only be for the only vehicle which is on my name, my bike, in which case i'm already getting nervous.

Good luck buddy, just man up and go collect it. You don't want to be one of those sorry people who goes through life ducking every fine or late bill notice in the mail.

Every fine I've ever been let off has never been followed up with something in the mail, obviously.

yeah i guess i'll go collect it, but lets say it ends up being the fine for which i was let off from, what do i do then, since i was let off and didn't sign for it when the officer pulled me off.

You can cross that bridge when you get there. I doubt it would be, because I've never yet found a traffic officer who says he's letting you off and then gets second thoughts. However, if that DID happen then I guess you could try appeal it with a local prosecutor.

So you aren't ever sure it's a fine?

It could be any piece or registered mail basically ?
 
If it's the fine and the officer has decided to log it, it's probably cheaper to just pay it than to fight it

How so? If you get given a warning for something, then resolve that thing, how are you in the wrong after that? Understandably I was in the wrong in the beginning, judgment was given, how can I be wrong still after that?

Collect the fine and go to the traffic department. There is a constable at a desk who listens to complaints. Tell him your story and perhaps he will agree with you.
Otherwise there are agents that get rid of fines. They usually hang around at the traffic department. You could always consider that route but I don't think your fine could be too much.
 
Am I blind? I cannot spot the notice number on an infringement notice!

The top right corner lists the 3 types of notice numbers - ending on -3, -9, and -6, but no specific number needed for payment reference purposes.

If you bank with FNB, just go into your fine payment, it will be there if they took your ID number.

Or you got it through the mail I suppose?
