ABdV | Cricket World Cup | The yes / no /maybe thread

Right decision. Can't pick and chose when you are available. If you wanted to go to the wc then don't retire a year before the event.

Found it really interesting all the flip-flopping pointed out about AB in the article. He can't seem to make his mind up about anything.

Probably the reason he wasn't a particularly good captain either. You have to be mentally strong - flip-flopping decisions on the field can cost you the match.

Compare him to Kohli - pretty much the same boat. Only reason India is still so good is because Dhoni is still there. Once he is gone, I reckon it will be a matter of time before they replace Kohli with Rohit Sharma as captain - a proven winner in the IPL with a calm demeanor like Dhoni.

Very strange that this was leaked after we lose 3 games in a row. Since CSA then released a statement clarifying exactly what happened, I can only think it was from AB's people.

Ab featured in three world cup campaigns 2007, 2011 and 2015. In all three of them he was unable to help bring home the cup.

Now that he has retired we must get him to make a return and win us the World Cup?

Thanks but no thanks AB. You have been a great servant of the game for us during your career and we appreciated the amazing feats you performed during your time at the crease and in the field. Enjoy your retirement playing T20 all over the globe.

Smells like a vrot flip-flopping fish.

Yeah, I wondered a lot about this. Weird timing for sure. What gains did they really expect to get if all of this was indeed leaked straight from AB's camp?

My theory is that AB was really affected very badly by CWC 2015 semi-final loss to NZ.

Yeah I believe the order to include Philander in the squad came either the day before or of the match. The fact that CSA gave in to the Sports Minister proved to AB winning the world cup wasn't a top priority for the organisation. If they prioritised the world cup CSA would of been willing to risk fines from government in order to win the tournament.

I support AB all the way. Look we can try and deny it but SA has got ZERO chance at winning the world cup, we have a bunch of youngsters that just isnt performing, ontop of that you have the older players that is also not performing. If I was AB I would never ever ever look at playing any sport in SA, it is just cancer, there is too much politics involved, and it just sours the whole experience. I would also pick and chose when I wanted to play if I was him, being screwed arround by being told who to have in your team even if the player isnt even fit, would certainly make me give zero fcks about playing for SA. He was in that position that allowed him to pick and chose when to play since we didnt and still dont have anyone of his calliber in the squad.

AB brought this on himself - wanting to keep wicket to keep someone out of the team.

If you want to do that, you've got to be able to take it when the system bites back.

Not saying either situation was the correct way to go.

AB is no doubt talented - his achievements will also be endorsed by: best player never to win any ICC tournament. And he hasn't won in any T20 league either. So what's the point of him coming back exactly?

I think his talent got to his head and he believes he is a power onto himself. He made no effort to work with the system or negotiate changes in a practical manner. No Sir. He went: I'm AB the greatest that ever lived, I retire, **** you. I want more/less rest. I want to spend more/less time with my family. I'm doing/not doing it for money. I'm happy/unhappy with retirement. I want / don't want to play another world cup.

He made that choices since they where fcking him around, so he just replied with the same, so now we want to lable him as a bad guy for doing it? CSA brought this **** upon them selves, since AB is making more money now then he did and would do if he still played for SA, while getting to chose when he wants to play and when not.

If one of us had half the talent he does in anything we do, we could try the same..... just saying. I stand by my point that it isnt a bad thing they didnt allow him back in, he is far better off not playing for SA than he would be if he was. There is no point in letting him back in now you are right, since all hope is lost for SA already, and letting him back in now would only do his name more bad since he wont win another title and would just add to your silly attempt to make him look bad.

Unfortunately Cricket is a sport where the team suffers from individual performances, so you can have Virat Kholi playing for SA but they will still lose since the other 10 players are not performing, so what point did you try to make by saying "What is the point of bringing him back excactly?".

So what you are saying is he is exactly like every cricket player that ever played for SA? Right point taken......
