Hey guys so I can get my cash back for my failed Powercolor R9280x. Im thinking of putting in an extra 1500 in to get the new R9390, but that means I will need to upgrade my existing 600w psu to a 750 so will probably get the Antec True Power 750w which is 1200.

I have read mixed reviews on the R9390 online.

What do you guys recommend?

Why not just get the R9 290?
Because you're going to have to add R 2.7k just to have the card and run it. Worth the gains?

Yeah i have thought about that one, there are a **** ton of mixed reviews online, people calling the 300 series a flop etc, eish my mind is spinning again reminds me of when I built my rig

Your 600W PSU will be fine. Full system power draw will be anything from 340-390 Watts under full load depending on your CPU type, CPU Overclock, GPU Overclock running synthetic full stress benchmarks, in game power draw will be less though. What CPU do you have, is it OC'ed, how many HDDs you running?

If you still want to get a 750W PSU then get this http://www.wootware.co.za/super-flo...tified-semi-modular-desktop-power-supply.html

I would get the R9 390, cheaper than a gtx970, has 8GB vram.

Thanks ponder you always seem to provide useful info :)

My cpu is i5 4690, not k series so no overclocking

8gb 1866mhz ram

120gb crucial ssd

1tb hdd

600w corsair cs 600 psu.

Chris from woot just emailed me and said my 600w should do fine with the R9390 although that doesnt quite help if i need to upgrade in the future, perhaps leave the psu option until I do actually upgrade in future?

From what I have read, the R9390 is indeed abit of a rebadge (AMD keeping up to its usual antics) although it comes at a competitive price point and it compares to that of the Nvidia Gtx 980

to add will the 8gb vram even help me much? Im only running a 1080p 60hz LG monitor and I read that the high v ram helps if you want to play in 4k lol im far from that

But ofc. That would be the sole reason for buying it :D

get the 390,

more vram is always welcome just helps with future games,
as games like gta5,with my 970 3.5gb i see it use 3.3gb and not everything is maxed out

if new games comes out and becomes more demanding use more vram, so you may not see it go over 4gb on 1080p now
but in a year it may, then you will be happy you went with the 8gb insted :)

and the psu should handle it,as u didnt OC you cpu, or anything and its a goodbrand

Cross that bridge when you get there in the future, see no need to address that now.

It's actually a refresh and not a rebadge, higher clocks, full dx12 hardware support etc. It is very well priced with performance varying between a 970 & 980 depending on the game in question.

I really don't know, some games like shadow of mordor, fc4, gta5 can use a lot of vram if you throw all the sliders to the right and then there's the possibility of ultra high res texture packs, mods etc that can benefit from that vram.

I honestly don't think it's a bad buy, quite the opposite.

Your other alternative at that price point is a galax gtx970 from wootware which would be better than a R9 380.

Awesome, thanks for the replies guys time to get the ball rolling

One thing people keep forgetting on a PSU is the Amps on the 12V rails, too low and its not going to do you any favours.

Never go cheap when it comes to buying a PSU.

I have a tier 2a /happy dance

Antec TP Classic 750.

Thanks for the info. I always thought one should be looking at the rating, Gold, Bronze, Platinum and the likes :o

Otherwise its the Antec Tp 750 which is 1199 from woot. Good price I think

Please tell me where that picture is from looks like good info :) I understand if I have to fork out for the psu but the one I have is a Corsair GS 600W is it alright? I know its not a seasonic or something

I would go with this - Seasonic S12II Bronze Power Supply - 620W . It's in the tier 1 list. Keep in mind that the cables are a bit shorter for my CM690III case (if routing all of them behind the mobo tray). That's why I went with a Superflower (HX) 750W Gold 80Plus Semi modular PSU (Wootware used to have it in stock). It comes with 2 x 8(+2) PCI-e cables and is 100% Haswell compatible.
