I'm not exactly sure what it uses but I'd like to know if it's line of sight also when you testers get it I'd like to know what type of pings/download rate you guys get :) I love the fact that we are getting choices finally though this will never work for me since I'm in a nice ditch and will never see a high site unless it's next to my house but it's going to make things very interesting.

It is not LOS but like just about all other radio signals in the Ghz range it won't transmit through mountains/hills. Have you checked out their coverage maps? They appear to take relief (i.e. hills) into account.

I'm not a tester but from the small amount of info I've seen pings seem to be sub 100ms and download rates compare to ADSL (though this could change with thousands of users!)

ive seen the download speeds first hand, ADSL speeds dont compare to it?

ive seen downloads go at 125kb/s and more on iburst, if ADSl can reach that, then ill buy it tomorrow.

Well ADSL would compare if Telkom uncrippled it [;)]

You are right that iBurst can hit speeds double that of (Telkom) ADSL however this assumes you have a good signal which not everyone will. Sentech beta testers also had awesome speeds as it wasn't capped at that stage, so people shouldn't expect that they will get 125 KB/s with iBurst when it is released (but I really hope I eat my words!).

I know that this sounds very stupid, but I just want to know what the Iburst is, I've never heard of it. Is it new?

Hi Gem,
Welcome to the forum!
Check out http://www.iburst.co.za/
they are similar to Sentech, but will use different wireless technology.

Yes, the secret of the user interface is that connections are established by the tower and user terminal only in the direction of the user terminal. The base station constantly calculate the location of the user many times each second, with adjacent antennas in the array in the base station. There's no wasted energy sending signals or interference in unnecessary direction.
