Hi,i just found out my absa savings account has, does any1 hav any advice on what to do next,i hav a lot of money in the account.

Go to the bank and enquire what is going on.

Or phone them.

Was your account idle (unused) for a long time? If so, then that's why.

Or else you'll need to FICA with them.

very strange. what kind of account is it? savings, cheque etc?

It's Probably the FICA then, but i did all the necessary FICA stuff with them about a year ago.Im not earnign a salary at the moment.

Some of the banks have not been good with the FICA administration, they may have lost the paperwork.

Go and see them with your ID and a new electricity, water or telephone account.

If they lost the paperwork, then they lost copies of your id etc., which ofc begs the question of what is the point of FICA if the bank is lax with your identity......

Change banks imo.

Yeah i should, what would the best way of getting all the funds out and closing the account, assuming i can get it open again?Should i open an account sumwhere else and just do a transfer?

If your account has been inactive for like 6 months or so, then certain tipes of accounts get closed and the funds transferred into an account with the Reserve Bank, where it is kept till you claim it again. Happened to me once :wtf:

Definitely an idle account that has fallen prey to the FICA process.

Visit your bank and reactivate it. Take your ID and proof of residence along (basically re-do FICA)!!

I just phoned my branch, they told me there is nothign wrong with my account, phone helpdesk,i phone them they say its also fine and that the beneficiary account must be closed.Ive tried 4 different beneficiaries,i doubt all of them are closed. No idea wtf is going on.

Well I certainly hope that one of the employees didn't transfer the money somewhere illegally. I would check this out with the relevant branch a.s.a.p. if it were my account.
