Anyone have one of these ****ty chip credit card?!?

My credit card was replaced in Janaury because of a faulty strip, they replaced it with the new chip credit card....

Ever since then, every 3rd or so time I use it, it says TRANSACTION DENIED immediately after I enter my code. It doesn't matter how many times a retailer tries. I can then walk across the road to another retailer and it works fine.

I let ABSA know on the 4th of March, my banker promised to order a new card - I'm still waiting, and this is still happening.

Today I actually had to leave CNA, walking back to the office, get my cheque card - and go pay for my purchases.

I am so sick of a bank who can get nothing right.

I REALLY WISH COMPETITIVE HOME LOAN INTEREST RATES WOULD COME BACK ALREADY!

Personally i'm shocked we still using mag stripe cards! I wish retailers would all move over to support chip cards... It's just that much safer for the consumer.. And I don't mean mag strip+chip, they should only be chip...

But there are always places that don't accept chips cards, or it's not setup properly and hence the frustration consumer have...

I've requested the replacement card to be purely mag strip ... the bank will probably **** this up the first time round.... and then I'll have to wait another two bloody weeks.

What exactly do they expect you to do when the card doesn't go through and you don't have any other way of paying? i.e. after a dinner.

Far be it from me to defend ABSA (never in a million years!) but is this the fault of the bank / card, or the POS machine the retailer uses?

Works with anyone else's card.... I've had a few times where someone has to pay on my behalf (also with a chip card).

Also - if you know there's a problem with chip cards, then you don't issue them to clients who you know use their credit cards frequently during the month.(i.e. on average 5x a day).

I usually don't have more than a R50 on me - and I only carry a money clip, credit card, drivers and car keys. (no huge wallet with 300 cards)

If that is the case, go into the branch and throw a tantrum of note.

It doesn't help with ABSA... thats why I really want competitve interest rates back - if a bank can offer me what I'm paying now - I'll leave, even if ABSA beats that offer.

There's a tantrum queue...

Yeh - the EXIT door - because ABSA don't give a ****. They only worry about their fee income - and what to blow it on.... and of course, meddling in sport, etc, etc.

Am starting to fee the same way about MWEB.

I reported a problem with their online message centre on 1 DECEMBER 2010 and it is still not fixed.

I have called several times and each time I have to hear that it is a bug and the engineers are working on it. Utter nonsense!

In 3 months, I have also never had a courtesy call to say that they are still trying to solve it.

Everytime I need someone to shout at, they get a call from me about this issue.

Vote with both feet.

I'm joining RedBull Mobile and Capitec.

Already made the move from Mweb to Openweb. Service FTW.

Like I said - as soon as another bank can offer the same interest rate on my bond... I'm gone.

I'm going to see about registering something like ABSA sucks and start a blog about the continued hassles with them.

So you must have an account with ABSA to have a bond with them? I doubt... And nothing stops you form having the most basic account with them and using another bank for your transactional banking.

The worst thing about a chipped credit card is rollin up to the lady at woolies and she swipes it as normal without wanting a pin.

Errrm so then WTF is the chip for? O also not knowing where to sign is a nightmare. Shame drop absa like a hot potato ASAP. If you cancel your credit card how does that effect your bond?

Makes no sense, if that is case i am sure it cannot be legit. What did they say? if you move credit cards consider your bond gone?

My wife got a memo from the banks that the cut off for mag stripe cards is pending. We are already advising all clients to get theirs as she does mostly CC transactions.

Actually, everything stops me. its a One account which is charged at a minimum of R350 a month, and is directly linked tobyour cheque account and includes the credit card. The account cannot be downgraded.

Should I now open a cheque and credit card at another bank and add to the fortune I am already spending in fees?

chip cards are no more safer than mag strip cards. its very easy to overide the chip and use the mag strip if you know what you are doing.

i specifically made sure FNB ordered me a mag strip card and not a chip card. i couldn't be bothered having to remember a pin that could be by-passed.

I've had the exact same problem but with a new FNB cheque card.

What do you do then?

My main problem here is ABSA's response to this - I made it clear two weeks ago (tomorrow) that this is a serious problem to me. I was trying to make a R10,000 purchase the other day and struggled for almost 30min - fortunately, I had my old strip card that wasn't working properly with me, and after about the 10th swipe it went through, if it didn't - I would have been screwed.
