There are loads of questions about this on the Internet, but none that answer my specific query.

If the ABSA banking app is installed in a rooted/jailbroken phone, I believe it will not work.

What is the error that it will give, or what is the experience? How does the app respond?

Why don't you try it out?

app wouldnt allow downloading ,tried it on a cracked tablet a while ago it said not compatible

Unless you tried something like MagiskHide?
You mean PlayStore wouldn't allow downloading/install? Probably tripped SafetyNet.
when i clicked on download it said ,sorry no can do .this was around 2021 ,i contacted absa and they confirmed that its not downloadable on modded software .

So I was thinking the app itself would warn you that the phone is not secure and won't allow you to use it.

Seems like it's not the case? Playstore not even allowing you to download it? That's add.

My phone is rooted , and the ABSA app just downloaded and installed from the playstore

When I opened the app , says not supported on rooted , just hide it in Magisk , and now on the screen link this device

This.

So it doesn't allow you to open the app.

My app works on my Xiaomi, but I cannot make payments. It gives me an error message saying technical error, and the app hangs. I can do transfers to other accounts, even CashSend works. I can do payments on the PC, and the phone is my transaction verification device.

Only payments. The phone is not rooted, but is running Xiaomi.eu ROM. I had no problems for months, until about a month ago.

I guess I'll see what the bank says.

You have options:

1) Switch WiFi off. Turn on mobile data and then restart the phone.

2) Delete app and re-download app.
Choose option LINK THIS DEVICE/IPHONE. Follow prompts.
Somewhere along the line you have to choose I AM NOT RECEIVING MY VERIFICATION.
Then choose I HAVE DELETED THE APP. Follow prompts.

3) Visit a branch to check if there is a pin blocked or if the card registered on the app has a block on it.

saw this :The Saftynet test checks whether the device is also intended for banking apps such as Google Pay. If the test fails, Google Pay will not work. Other banking apps might not work either, but that depends on the app. Kontist or ING Diba do work, but DKB refuses the service."
apparently different levels of security ,1 ,2 ,3 ,depending on the level it wont do certain transactions that the Google international can do ,from play store .

you need to send a query to the developers first ,branch wont know , developers will tell you if your rom version is allowed or not .

Strange, it used to work, then suddenly it didn't.

Is there a way do to a Safety Net test myself and check what fails?

Anyway, so I found an app that can run a Safety Net test, and it passed. I'm probably looking at some damn Android glitch again.

ask the app developers ,they will probably ask for certain files ,no harm in asking ,may just be an update thats needed .
