As most of you know Barclays recently bought a large amount of shares in ABSA.What most of you propably don't know is that they implemented a few new staff related policies.

I am a teller for ABSA and I am very unhappy about the changes. The biggest ones are:
1.All the people being empoyed post Barclays are being hired @ better packages, R9/per hour higer for the temps and +-R1500/pm for the full time personnel. They refuse to adjust the pre Barclays staff packages
2. 80/20% Black/White placements
3.We are now expected to be sales personnel while we work. We get bad reviews if we don't get a certain amount of leads for the consultants each day.
4.Blatant favouring of black staff in terms of Meet & greet events and promotions.

I wish that I could give links to prove this but it's not exactly something that is advertised. We are not allowed to talk about pay at work.

I want to know if this is legal and if there is anything that we can do about it.

This sounds bad! I bank with absa and depending on how bad it is I might just have to move to a different bank. They sound fairly racist in their policies and I'm not sure that as a South African I can stay with a bank that does not see everyone as equal.

Thanks for bringing this to the public eye.

Ive been thinking about moving too. And now might be a good time to do so. The thing is, where exactly do i move to? I have a CC + cheque + overdraft + savings acc with absa, who will take all that over?

Most banks will be more than happy to take over any accounts, but shop around and see where you can get the best rates.Ask them what you qaulify for in terms of silver/gold/platinum/private and what rates you'll get. Then push for better ones.

Virgin Money looks like it's best for the credit cards.

got a link for virgin money, im fed up with absa policy as well, i wanna go more Branson

well you are not really moving if you to VM it is a 50 50 joint venture with absa.

Try OM

OM Bank has an R85 per month account - with many free services - cheques cost u nothing, cheque card purchases cost nothing, etc. etc. Set fee of R85 pm bill on your account with only a few items costing extra (RD cheques, etc). Free internet banking.

can't rpm extend this forum to additional brands? so many folks are posting legitimate complaints about issues affecting many of us, but it gets relegated to offtopic discussion boards here, and disappears into the deep caverns of nothingness soonish. This site is very popular and growing very quickly, and I think instead of someone trying to fill a void by trying to build another forum from scratch, why not extend this forum under a new blanket to cover the other issues as well. Maintain the broadband issue under mybroadband, don't change that, just think about formally becoming a consumerism hub (which this forum is, but really just names itself as not). Just an idea. Flame away.

Edit: before someone recommends hello peter, don't, that's just a complaints listing, nothing more

Isnt that a qn for Forum suggestions and gripes?

Personally, I hope not - at least until affordable internet access is a reality.

Well, I'm not saying split this forum, but create a larger family - keep this forum as is but extend other forums under the my brand. costs can be covered with advertising anyway

ABSA is a racist employer- my wife worked for them years ago.

Look it is not ABSA that is racist they have to meet FSC targets like all other financial institutions. If you don't meet your targets you don't get GVT bussines end of story.
