I have received two sms's from "Absa" at 3am and 3:28am in the morning.

1)
Receive free e-mail statements from your Absa Credit Card Account instantly - easy to retrieve and file. To switch reply 'statemetn' & your e-mail address.

2)
Get R10 airtime free by using Absa Cellphone Banking! Dial *120*2272# from your cellphone - enjoy a new world of convenience. Rules apply. Send STOP to 31513 to opt out.

If this isn't a scam, then Absa are huge douche bags.

On first glance the email seemed legit, so just putting it out there for those who do bank with Absa.

This is the only related Absa mail I've gotten recently. It landed in my spambox though (gmail).
eStatement

Dear Client,

As of 9 July 2013, your eStatement will be enhanced with a new look and feel.

Look out for exciting new features, such as additional verifications, mobile account summary and QR codes. Below is a brief explanation of the added functionality you can expect to see on the new eStatement.

eStatement verification
Additional verifications have been added to your eStatement to help curb and prevent online fraud. Information only known to you will be displayed on the statement to confirm that the statement is sent by Absa. Your financial security is our main concern.

Mobile PDF
A mobile account summary PDF of your eStatement is also attached to this email to allow you to view it on your mobile device.

QR codes
Look out for our new, exciting QR codes, which enable you to scan the code using your mobile device and receive valuble information for your convenience.

The contents of the mail you posted match the legit ones but a real statement from absa will have a .emc attachment and definitely not a statement.html attachment. Any mail with an html attachment is likely phishing.

Two dead give aways, the .html attachment instead of a .emc, and the "Dear client" bit. If they dont refer you by name, you can be pretty sure it is a scam mail.
