ABSA Stockbrokers vs Easy Equities

Tax Free Savings Account.

Exchange Traded Fund - Sort of like a unit trust but is a basket of other shares purchased as a collective. In a way it enables you to buy shares you couldn't afford otherwise. Generally also grouped in a sensible manner to take the hard work out of it.

Known as passive investing as well. Nobody sits and monitors it. The shares are pre-selected inside the ETF and only changed once year or even less in most cases. Generally used for long term investing as it's not very volatile.

I saw the phrase 'basket of other shares' in your explanation, so are these 4 products classified as ETFs?

It's sort of the same thing except that ETF's are a listed share of their own on the JSE.

Like SATRIX "shares" you see are all ETF's consisting of other shares.

Easy Equities baskets are a similar concept but they let you buy a grouping of those shares directly and I think only once off.

I think their intention is to start you off with a nice varietal portfolio to take the thinking out of it and then you can build on the individual shares from there.

But I haven't looked that deeply into it to be honest.
