ABSA

Yup. Me too. I never looked back.

+1

Was also originally with Absa for years, switched earlier this year ... exceptionally happy with FNB service.

you get access to play lotto, and paypal and stuff

Not to mention buying Forex, maintaining limits (although Absa does have that, other banks dont), ordering new cards, changing PIN numbers online as well as. Also huge bonus is free in-contact, internet and telephone banking. Also, when I switched the only reason I had to physically go into a branch was to collect and sign for my credit card, everything else was couriered.

never mind the 15% back fuel!

Not a big fan of their pushing this new fuel rewards, quite a complicated calculation and you have to spend a lot and have almost all their products to get the full 15%

I've got a question.

I've got a debt card with ABSA, and now a gold cheque card with FNB. should I cancel the ABSA account? I mean, is there anything that the ABSA debt account can do that the FNB Cheque account can't?

can I just phone absa to cancel it, or do i need to go in and sign stuff?

In terms of moving way from ABSA to a new bank, it seems that posters here are divided between FNB and Standard Bank.

For a simple current account (for my salary to be paid in and to act as my operational account), which of the two would be best?

Standard Bank is circling the drain a bit at the moment. I'd be careful about moving accounts there. Especially business ones.

ABSA = altyd besig om stront aan-te-jaag. I went over to capitec and FNB :)

the one thing that ****ed me off with ABSA is their handling of fixed deposit. You can initiate one via IB, but dare you want to have it mature. Even if you choose on their bloody IB that you want interest and capital repaiud they will roll the capital. bloody fools.

in terms of interface, i prefer ABSA's to FNB.

I haven't had any major problems with ABSA and I've been with them all my life (since the Volkskas days). However I do think that as a bank they should have their IB up to standards. It's understandable when they warn you before hand of maintenance etc.

On the other hand if one felt like changing banks, I think the feeling would disappear very quickly when you think of all the schlep involved.
