I would just like to put this here as i feel this is a bit skelm of Absolute Hosting.

Im trying to cancel a service after they have hiked the price last month or so. Its the 24th and i only have to pay for the next billing cycle tomorrow, but now they are blocking me from cancelling this service. Can this be right form a consumer protection act point of view?

CANCELLATION OF SERVICE NOT POSSIBLE

Cancellations must be submitted 3 daysprior to the next service renewal date (25/04/2022) and all outstanding invoices must be paid in full.

The next renewal date for this service is 25/04/2022

Our cancellation policy can be viewed within the Customer Service Agreement

SERVICE CANCELLATION OVERVIEW

If the next service renewal date displayed in the above box refers to a past date, this then indicates that there are outstanding invoices due for this service.

In order to continue with your cancellation you are required to first settle all outstanding amounts due for this service and once paid in full you will be able to request a cancellation of this service.

Browse to the Invoices page to remit payment via credit card and once complete you can return to this page.

As per the Customer Service Agreement, all cancellation requests must be submitted via the client service area.

Cancelation requests which are submitted via ticket or email will not be fulfulled nor accepted.

Im also not sure if im not reading well, but their Customer Service Agreement does not state that i need to cancel 3 days before an invoice is issued

Well, it took me 4 months to register a cancellation with my current ISP. They ignored my first 3 emails in Jan and Feb, and then responded to a ticket on their website advising I should have sent the ticket to sales and not, accounts.

I submitted the cancellation on 1st April. Their reply, received on 21st April, says it will expire on 31st May

Reason? I did not provide a reason why I wanted to cancel

I find their attitude that they know better than me somewhat presumptuous

They want me to pay for next month before i can cancel. Ive paid Telasera for one year of hosting last month so ive already paid double for one month. I feel this is a bit of a ripoff. Why do i need to give them 3 days notice? One day should be plenty. Its not like they are selling perishables

Also don't see anything. Hopefully @Jade @ Absolute Hosting or someone can help you sort tomorrow. I've had some cancellation issues with both Afrihost and Cool Ideas, and they usually got it reversed or refunded if it was a system error.

On a side note, love these clauses they always add in:

  1. The Service Provider reserves the right to add, delete, or modify any provision of this Policy at any time without notice.

For now I think just calm down. It's Sunday evening and not much gonna happen. Hopefully it can get sorted tomorrow. PDF print their current agreement so you have proof there is nothing like that in their Agreement by the time of cancellation.

Get a good nights sleep

Let me leave in peace. Its not worth having an angry customer (i still have other services with them) just becaues you wanted to milk the last possible bit

I'd gladly take a lullaby.. maar nou ja
  • We require notification of non-renewal 30 days prior to the renewal date for all services with exception to Dedicated Services, Colocated and Virtual Private Services. We require notification of non-renewal with at least 90 days notice but not more than 360 days prior to the renewal date for all Dedicated Services, Colocated and Virtual Private Services.
I read this as a 30 day notice requirement for all services, with dedicated, colocated and VPS (noggal!) requiring a 90 day notice period.

As much as I love Absolute hosting, these are quite odd terms. Hoping that Jade can shed some light? I also note similar terms on some other web hosts.

Morning @Intell1gence

Please can I ask that you PM me your client code or the domain name linked to the service that you want to cancel and I'll get the cancellation attended to for you.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention along with the others that also mentioned this.

The primary reason why services had such extended cancellation periods was because we at some point resold these services but as you are aware we now host these within our own environment, and we have over looked the cancellation term and will get this updated in line with all of our other services.

Thanks @RedViking for tagging me in the thread and for your valued input.

Look forward to receiving those details :)

Most of the service providers relying on 3rd party services require 30 days notices to be honest.

e.g. If you cancel in April, you still get billled for May.

Still frustrating I know.
