Anyone having the same issue:
Connecting via USB to computer - it does not recognise the unit and therefore you cannot copy across USB, only Network cable.

Cant find drivers for it either.

Thanks

Nope, I've not had that problem myself.

I'm going to assume you are plugging in the special USB cable into the "out" connector. There are two "in" and one "out" on the side. Just checking....

i had the same problem connecting the ac with my laptop. dont know why.
then connected to my desktop and it is recognised immediately.

I had the same issues but it was because I didn't format the drive in the AC Ryan, when you plug it in to the PC it does nothing.... the reason is that on the device the format drive dialog has popped up.
So all you need to do is bring the remote and press the "x" button twice, then it will pick it up.

I fixed this issue by copying off all my stuff and then formatting it in the AC Ryan.

So I upgraded the firmware to 3582 and it is fixed but now I cannot fast forward.
My opinion? Rather buy a Mede8tor

Are you certain people aren't having issues with that unit?

I am using the latest firmware and am aware of a few bugs but I think this is the case with most of these media players. They seem to be constant works in progress but I suppose I'd rather have that than a unit that becomes outdated in a few months.

EDIT : A quick glance here seems to show a similar pattern to the one present on the AC Ryan forum :

Thanks for the link, my mate has the mede8tor, seems very happy, so far

There are more bugs on it than a 2-dolla-microsoft-whore but I still  it.

Are we talking about the AC Ryan or the Mede8er here?

The AC Ryan does have many bugs but as stated I love mine too. It has become a necessary bit of equipment in my house. We don't have DSTV now and the evening is spent choosing a movie from the jukebox (with Thumbgen generated images containing the synopsis, age restrictions etc) and then watching it.

I use the internet radio when having a braai etc for some background ambiance.

It does both these things well so not many complaints from me. Of course that is a little bit of a lie as I do put forward feature requests on their forum but that is more for nice to haves than have to haves.

LOL that link is to the Mede8ter forum...

Also try doing the frimware update again

Um, I think we are both fully aware that it is a link to the mede8er forum. Iyt was being used to illustrate that users of that player have the same issues if the complaints on the forum are anything to go by.

Lance you are our resident Playon expert, what firmware you using?
Thanks man

Um... the embarrassing thing is that their forum seems to be down at the moment so without checking my AC Ryan itself I can't tell you. It is the new SDK firmware though.
