Got these guys installing fibre in my area who then sold the line to vodacom. I have vodacom, afrihost, webafrica, mweb and a few others to choose from in terms of an isp but the line now belongs to vodacom anyway. So I didn't jump the gun immediately and I only did it now 6 months after. I decided to go with mweb who were the cheapest thinking that it will all be the same since its all vodacom owned.

Now I'm having really poor ping on this line. I assumed I was going to be having 2ms ping but a Speedtest on my broadband gives me a ping of 16ms which is like 4ms ping less than the ping I used to get on my Telkom lte. And gaming on this is so bad, international servers are extremely laggy. I want to know if anyone else had accelecorp in their area and how was your ping? Is it just a shitty fibre line they are installing or should I take this up with mweb/vodacom? Would really appreciate the advice.

Do you think its the service provider or the Fibre line? I asked someone in the area to do a Speedtest and they got the same ping but with vodacom as their isp. Am I just screwed with this crappy fibre line and there's nothing I can do?
 
Okay, so this is my concern. From what I see, vodacom and probably mweb are routing their traffic with wacs cable hence the higher pings. I need a fibre provider that does seacom so I get better pings to eu servers. Probably a fibre provider that does both seacom and wacs, who do you guys suggest?

But how do isps work on a line like this? If the line actually belongs to vodacom who took ownership from accelecorp (fibre builder), does vodacom route the traffic regardless of isp, as in the line goes to vodacom directly who route and then just charge mweb a lesser fee or something to make profit?? Are they open access or not on this particular fibre build? Accelecorp is new and unheard of, never seen a single post on mybb about this company.

Your ISP routes traffic not the fibre provider.. this is why your choice of ISP is important if you are looking at lowest latencies..

So it doesn't matter regardless of the Fibre builder? As far as I know accelecorp just built the Fibre network and sold it to vodacom. So is it really open access on this particular vodacom Fibre? My friend that signed up directly with vodacom has the same pings as mine.
 
The fibre provider will have their physical infrastructure laid down to various data centers where POP's and IX's are located.. this may affect ping a little bit, but being local nothing noticeable..

Your ISP is ultimately responsible for routing traffic to overseas and will have their preferred providers and cables to do so, based on what they think is best for their profits and not necessarily best for their customers..
 
Moving away. My options are: Home connect, rsaweb, vox and Web africa. Need some info on who would be the best provider especially for better pings to eu servers via seacom.

They are pricier but that is exactly why you have read great things about them.. they are pricier because they make sure they run the best network for their customers and don't focus on making money at the expense of their customers like other ISP'd seem to do..

For that reason, I can't recommend a second best.. the price difference, whatever it may be, just is not worth it..

This generally. You can't expect the ISP to make near-zero profit and have a great network for gaming, low latency and speeds without cutting corners.

You pay for what you get, the same story with most ISP's.
