We currenlty run DigiNet lines to all our out of town offices, we are running out of available bandwidth most of them time and are looking for solutions. The current idea is to use Accelerator Hardware in front of the diginet links to speed them up. I see they claim 100%-400% increase in speeds and transfers in some models, does anyone allready have these in place and what kind of service are you getting, do they work ? What manufactures seem to be at the top of the game ?

Mavx, basically you need to know what is travelling down those diginet lines, why don't you get your WAN network kit supplier to do a proof of concept(POC) for you before you make a decision. Yes there are various products out there, such as Expand, Packeteer, Sitara, etc, as well as enabling some QoS on your routers.

For example I had remote offices complaining on speed and transactions, although it was ctirix/terminal server based. When we did a POC, we discovered what unnecessary traffic was going down the line, we immediately made the decsion that we need to purchase these bandwidth management hardware systems and solutions, we have never looked back, as you can do much more than just speed-up your network, you can also 'beef-up' security.

If you need to get hold of someone/company that will assist with a POC, PM me with your email and I will send you the details of these guys. :D

Do you maybe have any URL's for any of this hardware for us?

I assume they are compressing data before transmitting it. Note, encrypted data cannot be compressed and binaries cannot be compressed as much as text. Also, something that is already compressed, cannot be compressed again. So, you need to look at what kind of traffic you are transmitting.

If your main bandwidth hog(s) is an application which you control (aka has developed), have you considered compressing the data it transmits?

As far as I know there isnt a real facility for us to compress the data, we use Java Apps for the user interface and apparently that has some type compression available, but not quiet good enough. Have a look at www.expand.com , the Accelerator Product Line. Interestingly Telkom have something close on offer, in an email from them they recognise that these products are available and that there is a speed problem in general. Dont have access to this info but proved interesting reading!

Anyone out there allready using Compression hardware ? Keen to know what you guys are using at the moment and what makes etc, if they did help in your reponse times etc? Any info...
