Howzit,

Ive got a TP link setup as the AP and a Netgear Genie VEVG2660 and the router.

Originally I had these swopped around as the TP link came with the fibre installation.

Netgear firmware is V1.0.0.23_1.0.23 and I believe its the latest although on the site it says 2015.

I can see both networks with the AP showing good signal.

Could the Netgear router be to old?

Any other suggestions?

TIA

There is no Internet connection come from the AP although network is visible with strong signal.

Did you disable DHCP on the access point and give it a static address using the same range as your main network and outside your DHCP range?

I did that with the Netgear router but did not come right hence swopping them around and using the AP mode on the TP Link.

I was under the impression that once AP mode has been selected theres no other settings that need to be changed?

It cant be overloaded as when I was trying to figure all this out I reset both routers and renamed networks.

Sounds like I may need to resort to the baseball option.

Setup the router with the internet's ip as a gateway on the access point. Ping it to see that you can ping it. Make sure the access point is using a different IP address from the main router.

I have an old netgear that I'm using as an extra AP.

It too sometimes randomly decides, "thou shalt not have Internet connection through my WiFi", even though I can ping main router.

Restarting my PC sorts the problem out usually. Very weird, but rare enough that I haven't bothered trying to fix.

Ok will try figure out what you are actually saying here and then attempt.

What about disabling/enabling the NIC?

@NatalNic What TP-Link you have?

Alternatively you can connected the two routers with lan cable to the wan port and have the TP-Link work like normal wifi router.

Its a TP Link Archer C20 AC750 Wireless dual band.

So if I connect WAN to WAN will the AP router work without any changes needed?

You will need to set up the gateway IP to the other router and the TP Link need to have a different IP than the main router. Only those settings need to be changed if you run lan cable you can test it with short lan cable first before running the length you require.

Here is a tutorial to use it as a repeater: https://imagineer.in/blog/setting-tplink-archer-c2-as-repeater/
