I looked around and found that iBurst have restricted couple of ports.

To get your way around it just send them an e-mai with your username and the IP address of the SQL port you want to access, not sure how long will it take to have the port/s opened for you.

the standard port mysql use is 3306. How can i test to see if port is blocked by iburst or not

Well I just successfully accessed my remote mysql database via openoffice on iburst, so it should work.

If you still having problems, please post an error message so we can troubleshoot

It may be that the remote site is blocking the attempt. It may have been set to only allow a certain IP address or IP range?

I would encourage you to shutdown access to the mysql port from outside PC's. I would setup SSH and use port forwarding. This is not too complicated on a Linux PC - with Windows I would be stumped.
