Hi all. I am fairly new to this and I'm still in shock from what actually happened today.
The story:
I was driving on Rhodes Drive in Cape Town - Constantia area, the route I always drive, and the road had oil all over it. So I turned a corner and tried to slow myself down a bit by applying my brakes and the car started to slide violently, so I of course tried to correct it and lost control of it. The car flipped onto its side (driver's side), spun 180 degrees and then popped back onto it's wheels at a 90 degree angle to the traffic.
I also have the contact details of two witnesses which I gave to the police when reporting it. The two witnesses also slid off the road as they came around the corner and almost collided into each other.
The car was still drivable so I took it to a place in Tokai and it looks like it will be written off due to the extensive amount of damage.
My Question:
What is the actual process from here on in? I've reported it to the cops and I've left my car at the place in Tokai for an assessment.
The Car:
Toyota Yaris 2005 T3 1.3 5dr A/C, Radio/CD, P/S
Mileage is/was 105,000
The car is insured for R75,000 and I wanted to know what they base the replacement payout on? Generally speaking of course.
It's insured by Hout Bay Insurance brokers (HBIB)
