so i'm taking a friend and his daughter to malmsbury to visit mother / grandmother - who has not been visited for years and years.
the old girl is not well and running out of time, in the circumstances told him is now to visit and not to put it off.

the next hurdle is accommodation.
i'm not too partial to guest houses (i prefer the anonymity of a hotel).
i'm wanting to book 3 rooms for 2 nights - one for each of us.

there does not seem much on offer - best i can find is the royal hotel - in riebeek kasteel.
it seems interesting in itself, being the oldest hotel in w/cape

so i'm wondering if anyone here knows malmsbury and can give some ideas ?

What's wrong with a guest house, when have hotels ever been anonymous, you still need to deal with staff?

If you were in primary school, I would have suggested Huis Landman, my old boarding school..

Shack up in Riebeek.. Malmesbury got no hotels, only 3 or 4 guesthouses, if that much..

He probably means impersonal nature of hotels where staff is involved but they don't really bother with you on a personal basis apart from formality.

Some GH owners can be a bit intrusive.

this is going to be a difficult weekend - a hideously broken family as a result of a drunken and excessively physically abusive father (missing now - hopefully dead).
the mother has untreatable and inoperable cancer, about 6 weeks left.
my friend and his sister do not realise the severity of the situation, and have no idea of the timeframe their mother is in.
