Does anyone know of a way that I can be notified when someone logs on to the internet using my account details.
I discovered someone using my account thanx to Antibody's little SASA.
How can I prevent this from happening.
This jerk off used about 500mb of my account...

There was a similar thread about this a while ago and the complaintant laid a charge at the police station - not sure what came of it of course...

Maybe CraigSA can help?

The question is... How did they get hold of your user name and pwd...

Iv seen a couple of usn and pwd floating around. I got my hands on one (I dont use it, but it works), apparently this account was put on a forum (by the owner apparently).

Im sure telkom can track these people.

Phone your ISP, most major ISPs will be able to tract the account to an IP, or even a phone number

Depends if they do their own authentication or not.

keep on trying silent bob. All you can do is exercise some patience against such inefficiencies....however broadband is worth waiting for. What about iburst, sentech?

apparently its really easy to hack the adsl accounts server at telkom! was speaking to a friends mate the other day and he said he hacks accounts all the time if he runs out of bandwith.... of course i said i would kill him if he ever used mine! point is, it is really easy!

download a bandwidth monitor i.e DU Meter which shows you a continuous faded graph of d/l u/l bandwidth.

if you're not d/l or u/l and the graph says you are.. then you know something fishy is happening.

1 > change pass
2 > dont give it out to poeple
3 > use antibodys dsl tool (if ur useing a saix acc) and monitor ur bandwidth
4 > PM clipse and tell him hes a n00b

all of the above should be good enough to keep your acc details safe

I had an better idea, I just kicked Telkoms butt and got an Axxess account, 10gb for the exact same amount as Telkom's 3g.
These guys are right around the corner from me.. service at my command and they say they keep an eye out for things like this..
Telkom couldn't care less....

good luck

I really hope axxess can keep up their prices after the dreaded 1st of november.. they've got such great service and I've never had anyone jack my axxess account.

However - I know for sure that certain telkom employees can see your telkom adsl password.

I know someone who was buying their bandwidth from telkom, same as you were, and whose business adsl acc got hijacked regularly so he went to the cops. Its an enormously bureaucratic process and nothing comes out of it. They need a subpooena in order to authorise tracing of the ip, and nothing happened in the end.

Cut your losses and change password regularly.

Axxess is

Oh, postman pot, can DU meter show you if someone else is using your login?

Mine only shows local network stats.

If someone is using a concurrent login with your name, you can only check the bandwidth used in DU against the saix meter.

I know I'm blowing their horn now, but Axxess will show you concurrent logins on their usage page..

Send an e-mail with as much information and as much details about the incident as possible to [email protected]

They take a couple of days to reply, but they give you the full log details of your account. They can determine whether all connections have been made from the same location.

I know because I filed a report a while back and I found out that someone was using my account after hours... but it turned out to be an "inside" job... so I had to address the matter internally.

Anyway, if you they determine that the connection was made from a different location, they can actually try to pinpoint that location.

It is worth a try at least.

like i said.. if you see your bandwidth doing funny things while you aren't using any bandwidth.. then something fishy is going down.

right click the DU meter icon, options, change 'network interface to monitor' to dial-up connections only.

yours is obviously only monitoring the network :p

Mmmm ... I may be mistaken, but I can't see how this would indicate any account hackers. I can't see a reaason they would be going through any of your local interfaces (including your PPP link), if they merely use your account info on their own DSL lines. However, if you compare the output with what's reported by SAIX or your ISP, then I believe you can easily correlate it and find anomalies.

Monitoring your local PPP traffic mayl, however, show you if someone is using your link on the sly (spyware, adware, other malware, hacked machine, etc).

Did you have any luck with that? I've been waiting for the police since July now to submit a subpoena to Telkom to release the information of the person who hacked my line... Maybe I should try the internal route?
