I have an MTN account with Autopage. Today I phoned them to add a 100Mb EDGE package to my existing account. "Sorry sir, MTN has not yet announced the EDGE packages". "But they're on the MTN pricelist". "Sorry sir....".

What must I do?
 
Hi jpretorius,

Have sent you a PM with contact details @ Autopage. The normal support people are less than useless!
 
From all the posts I have seen on this forum, it wouldn't be far from the truth to say that Autopage as a whole is useless.

Pls supply me with the MSISDN that you used when enquiring today .. i can investigate why the agent wasn't adequately briefed in order to assist you with the query? I can also assist you further .

MSISDN = Mobile Station Integrated Services Digital Network Number.
Basically, your SIM has an ICCID and IMSI. The MSISDN is "associated" with these two numbers by the network. You can have more than one MSISDN number associated - typically you have 3 - voice, data and fax.

Confused enough? :-) All you need to know is that its your phone number, and thats what they should have asked for. Dont let them intimidate you with acronyms when you have a problem. You should see what happens when they try that rubbish with me ;)

Now, if one could have that association cross-network, multi-number ... that would be neat ... then there would be no need for running around with a work phone, a private phone, etc.... I've seen some phones are able to call out on 2 numbers, but don't think MTN (or the others for that matter) has implemented it?
 
Using the word EDGE probably confused the guy, had you said GPRS or data bundles he would likey have know what was required.

Now this is potential a very interesting point!! This is theoretically possible, when number portability is implemented. Number portability was due to be implemented last year end of June I think. Number portability, allows you to have an 083 cellular number but to have a CellC contract or other billing provider contract. ICASA issued a demanded implementation date last year some time, but the technical issues experienced behind this concept are beyond comprehension. So it has been completed on certain networks, but telkom has a major problem on their side, with regards to their billing model. You call a perceived local number and you get billed a long distance call. Wonder if this one will ever see light? Nice concept though.
