Hi All,

I'm doing a bit of research on which accounting package to acquire for business purposes. We a small organization, that does work internationally and handle multiple currencies.

We currently using Pastel, but find it has its limitations. If you could please assist in directing me to some software packages that meet the following specifications/requirements.

1) Basic accounting e.g. recording of invoices (income and expenses), creditor and debtor management e.g. age analysis etc
2) Multiple companies
3) Multiple currencies
4) Multiple projects across companies
5) Ability to automate accounting for recurring payments etc- not an essential
6) Payroll package included and related taxes- print payslips etc
7) Ability to email and print from software package
8) Multiple users access
9) Reporting: management accounts, per project, per company, ratios included etc

10) Capturing documentation from a central log-on a cross multiple organisations. i.e. user does not have to log on every time a “different” entity needs to be accessed.
11) Flexible consolidation of entities (any combination of entities) functions
12) Cross-company capturing of transactions will be automatic and no need to capture the same information in each separate companies manually.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

1 - 9 can be done with pastel accounting. Payroll will always be a separate package.

Multi currency, Project Tracker, multiple users and pastel intelligence centre reports are all add on modules sold separately.

Pastel also offers consolidation of multiple companies into a single company.

The other option would be pastel evolution or sap.

guruworx.co.za try them out... They also run their application on SQL 2008 that makes a world of possibilities come true

Hi Rumblebee,

Rapid Accounting may be the answer for you. Customization according to your needs. 25 years in business. Extremely fast database, +- 500 pages report under 10 secs, Cloud based access from anywhere in the world. PM me if interested.

honeslty i wouldnt waste time with pastel partner or what ever its called now, not when it still uses pervasive,

rather spend the extra R2k or 3k and go with Sage evolution(MS SQL Based), you wont be sorry, our accounting system has been rock solid since we turfed partner out, and put in Evolution

Pastel.

Everyone uses it it makes your life easy you slap it on a flash and give to auditors or sars etc.

The other products are good quick books etc however no one uses it everyone is pastel.

So for the simplicity of integration everywhere stick to the defecto

Same with office, yea libre is good but everyone uses excel so why go against it and create unnecessary headaches

Sage One is cloud-based Pastel. All you have to do is create a login for your accountant or auditor and they can do everything they need to do without you ever having to hand anything over to them physically.

Still pastel so yes that is perfect. I should have said anything SAGE (just don't expect support from them)

I have a whole thread with the mails there 52 unanswered mails but 52 read receipts received.

Apart from support SAGe/pastel is the best

Well if you move your SAGE to these guys they deal with all the SAGE packages and they are number one in Gauteng for delivering service and helping out their clients. they have people from SAGE working for them so if you have any problems they sort it out instantly. and they treat their clients like family.

intotek.co.za

But if you want to move away from sage ill recommend Guruworx.co.za the flexibilty that the app can do is great and their prices are pretty decent too.. dont have to cut off a arm and a leg to pay them. think its R 250 per user license :) Their service is also good.

Regards,
Faz

I recently had to get support from pastel for one of their older products. Never in my life have I experienced such bad service - I actually gave up on them after three weeks and was helped for free by a forum member. I will never recommend them again or use another sage product.

So it seems the top 3 recommendations are as follows:

1. Sage Evolution
2. Omni Accounts
3. GuruWorx

I will be making contact with them. Is it best to deal direct with them or a reseller?

is there any particular reason AccPac or QuickBooks was not mentioned?

QuickBooks is vastly superior to Pastel in terms of functionality, especially reporting and access to transactions (drilldown, search, etc.)

Yes, for example, Pastel has a search function, but this is like a wheelbarrow without a wheel in comparison with QuickBooks' Porsche. Yes, Pastel has drilldown, but not everywhere/everything.

Very few people have used both products, so don't believe everything you hear/read. Get a full demo copy of QuickBooks and see for yourself.

QuickBooks is also a Sage product.

I fully agree with this though still waiting on 52 separate emails.

I got a couple replies from support at first, but nothing from sales. Eventually support just started ignoring my emails too, and even requests to escalate my tickets to management fell on deaf ears. All emails did receive ticket numbers though.
