We are looking to move over to a decent software that will allow us the following functionality

Recurring Billing (eg: web hosting)
Quoting and invoicing of sales of products (eg: computer components, web design, services and support).

Basic Accounting functionality

Would prefer it if it was suited to the IT industry.

Your help is much appreciated.

I guess you have to be qualified to use the pastel package.

It doesn't seem to be very user-friendly and one has to purchase the "top of the range" package to get billing functionality.

Hi there

I seem to be doing the same thing as you. I supply computer components and web hosting as well.

I use software callde Quickbooks - it is very good, and works well for me.

I am a distributor for it, so if you would like to purchase it, let me know.

Best regards

Accounting/Billing

In order to select the right package think of the following points;-

- How many invoices do I process per week?
- How many customers do I have?
- How many Inventory Items do I have / need?
- How many Bank Accounts do I have / need?

Once you have determined these figures you can assess what type of package would suite, that is large numbers = database system + good support, small numbers = off the shelf stuff + no support.

Hope this helps, we sell on-line accounting packages. cabenet.com.au

Also Turbo Cash is Open Source, free... and comes with the source code so you can customise it

Thanks for the replies all.

Jaryd. I downloaded and installed Quickbooks. Seems to be a fairly decent system, but not easy to import stock items from existing distributor stock sheets.

RS and DL. Have tried Turbocash and whilst it is a great OS system, it is (for me) a little difficult to use. Having said that, I haven't had much time to play around with it.

Boodles. Will have a look at Gnucash. Question is, does it run on Windows.

Cabenet. Welsome to the site. You made some valid points in terms of selection of package. At this point an off the shelf application will do us fine until we outgrow the need for a generic system and need one designed specifically for us. You guys have an interesting product BTW.

You can also have a look at fincon

Now this looks interesting. Am downloading the demo as I type ;)

Are you using it? If so what is their aftersales service and support like? How easy is it to reconcile bank statements?

I hope they put more dev into the program than they did into that website :D

FINCON is a great product just a bit expensive!

Seems a very comprehensive program (testing it out at the mo - along with Quickbooks, Turbocash - tiring I tell you).

Offhand, what are we looking at forking if we go the route of Fincon?
