Hi

So my wife was playing sims 3 seasons last night on our laptop when all of a sudden the screen started displayong checkered patterns and mulitple colours lines and then restarted.

Since then i have tried switching it back on and it comes on but the screen is all messed up alot of horizontal lines out of place and the screen appears to be duplicating the images. It doesnt load windows just blues screens with a bunch of writing that i cant make out.

Does anyone know what has happened? Is it a hardware failure?

More than likely a hardware failure.

Sounds like the video/gpu card memory is faulty.

I had this exact problem with a laptop about a year ago, the only option was to replace the motherboard.
Thankfully it was still under warranty.

Good Luck!

I have the same model with the same issue. its the graphics card. i am trying to buy one but its abit expensive.(80 dollars on ebay) the current graphics card the laptop has is a 8600m that has a short live span. apparently the radeon 3650 mobility will also work in the laptop. a quick fix you can try is to open the laptop. you will see the graphics card just slots in. take it out an blow it with an hair dryer for 1 minute and then put back in.. it should work for a while. search on youtube for the hair dryer trick.

I also had issues with exact same model. Computer would turn on but with no display. Its the gfx card no question. I used to oven trick to fix mine (google it) .It started dying on me at closer intervals. At the end replaced the nvidia 8600m graphics card with a radeon 2400m (it fits) that a bought from a guy in durban for 300 bucks. Gf still using it now with no probelms.

Edit: or try the hairdryer trick as stated above. Dont know it but probably safer.

was the guy you brought from in durban a dealer or another user?

Will try the oven trick when i get home.
