As I mentioned to anyone reading the last wide screen thread I said I would let you know what my thoughts where. The monitor is, as the title points out a 19" LCD widescreen, 16:9 aspect ratio, 8ms response, 500:1 contrast monitor. I am a bit bummed that the monitor lacks a DVI port but is that really a problem? The monitor was bought from PC Zone for R1999 and came with a free 256mb Leadtek memory stick.

The monitor does not come across as cheap and is finished very well. Installing was easy as it is just 2 pieces, a base and the panel. Windows picked it up fine but did not give me the option to change to the native resolution of 1400x900. This was solved by installing new drivers.

The picture quality is amazing and the backlight is so bright (almost too bright) which makes viewing great. DVD's are awesome, the wide screen adds a new dimension and with so many of the movies and TV eps being wide screen it seems to double the size.

Gaming surprisingly are great. I have stayed away from LCD for so long because of the fear of ghosting or streaking but I have seen nothing of the sort. The game is just enhanced by the wide screen you seem to find your self more immersed in the game.

My only negative is... how long is it going to take me to save up for a 21" or 23" cause I want bigger now :( I would def recommend this to anyone who is thinking of changing from the old CRT or wants a widescreen.

James, that sounds awesome! Such a bargain too! Good God!

I know Incredible Corruption sell Acer hardware so you might want to phone them.

You can also pick-up from Take2 [although you'll have to wait a few days] although I don't they have the monitor [they have a 19" for R2200 - not sure if it's the same one]

Incredible corruption have the same monitor without the memory stick for R2600

I was looking at the packard bell myself Ares. Or rather, what I'm looking at is 3xwide screen 19" for my desk at home.

I think PB may be the way to go. Their stuff seems excellent.

I cannot find a single one of these in Cape Town!!!

James could you get me the number of that PC Zone so i can send my aunt to get me one?

Thanks

Also been searching for the packard bell 19" maestro and the acer 1916ws but can't find any of them in Gauteng (unless you go to incredible corruption). Any help with Gauteng dealers would be of much appreciation.:)

Just phoned PC ZONE and they are happy that you can send a courier if you are not close (im getting one from them and im in Hout Bay)
