My Acer screen has been working perfect in a dual screen application for ever.
I shut down last night and this morning one screen is "dead".
I say "dead" as it will show all the post data but as soon as it loads windows it remains blank and the no signal script comes up.
The other Acer screen is working perfectly.
a) Reseated the 8800GTX to another Pcix slot.-no change.
b)Nvidea application does not pick up the second screen-try activating dual screen ,no luck.
c)Downloaded latest drivers (poking in the dark here , I know..)-no change.
d)Removed the second screen and saw the post section-soon as windows loads, same thing.
d)Simply un plugged the screen and hot plugged the second screen in,a short while and its working.
e)When switching on in dual screen mode, it will post on the primary(faulty) screen but switch over TOTALLY to the secondary screen.
f) Managed to get the screen temporarily working on a very basic resolution but that also did not last.
e)Help ?

Ok,Skip the above ! Sorry.

Tested it on my lan computer and it worked perfectly. As dual and single screen setup.

Could my 8800GTX be faulty ?
PCIX drivers perhaps?

ok...help again ?

Sounds to me like your GPU's memory is busy going. That's the symptoms of it.

Zeb,thanks..After a very loooong afternoon of testing and delving I can confirm the following.
My Acer screens are all good.
I can get one channel from the 8800GTX to give the one screen 1680 x 1050 res.
The other will only boot at 1050 x 720 res.

Is this indicative of my Gpu on its way out ?

Yup. Best to find that receipt if it's still under warranty. Otherwise start shopping :)

Zeb,A WEEK OR BACK THIS HAPPENED WHEN i SWITCHED ON...RELATED ? cAN YOU CONFIRM ANYTHING HERE ?aaargh! Cap locks,sorry..

Are you running Vista with SP1? If so you may want to install XP and run a full test before returning or chucking the card away. Vista SP1 has that checkerboard problem and I don't think theres a fix out yet, but it's only suppose to only happen when playing video so your problem is somewhat perplexing.

On the other hand a memory problem would give you the checkerboard display when the card is running out of memory bandwidth, and since that happened as soon as you switched your system on your memory may well be damaged

Sorry I can't be of more help but try the XP fix first and if it doesn't work then it's definitely the end of your card...:(

Thanks again bud..Running Vista though, so its probably indicative of the card then..Ill swap it out on Monday.
