I have been asked by a friend to look at an e530 laptop, I'm not a pc tech but can usually find my way around.

The machine is unable to boot due to lack of operating system being found as a result of a supposed hard disk failure, what bugs me is this, the disk appears to be spinning up and polling. :erm:

I realise this may well a case of it still being shot - error code 0200. :(

I am suspicious that the Bios may have been corrupted. What are the chances and more to the point is there a remedy via the USB or dvd drive?

The machine in question is supposedly still under guarantee, however there are no security seals/stickers in place which leads me to think it may have been opened before it got to me! :wtf:

The ultimate issue is recovery of data on the drive if possible.

I have encountered " It can't be fixed!! or It's broken " too many times, that i've proved otherwise, to just accept it as the norm!

Otherwise google "acer error code 0200" got quite a few other hits on the issue.

The data can easily be recovered all you have to do is take the hard drive out and put it in an external enclosure and copy the files off it, or if you don't have an external enclosure you can pop it in a Pc and get the files off that way.

Data recovery error code 0200

Thanks for the link and the suggestions. I had thought of an external enclosure, both to recover the data and prove the fault at the same time.:)

It appears there may be a bad connection issue if the info from the link is to be believed.:erm:

I don't see a hd just failing without warning especially so soon. But then, i am not in the industry so there may be more than i would like to believe.
