i have to do p[ut a laptop in for a customer was just wondering which is better

both have 1.7 512 meg ram 60 gig hdd

hp is 400 rand more with no free carry bag

The lady on the phone told me that acer's quality is poor compared to hp?

so hp or acer?

Try f Siemens more 4 your rand and lighter than HP

I would say HP, its just a better built notebook and is not badly priced for what you receive.

I like Acer - nice bang for the buck...but HP's build quality on the entry level notebooks is still a bit better than Acer's. If only Acer didn't use that cheapish looking silver plastic...

Both brands are equal in quality component wise.

@Killa - I would go for HP ... on my third one now (replace them every 2 or 3 years). My wife is using my old one, which is about 4 years old now. One of my co-workers bought and Acer, and he has had more cr@p with that thing than you can imagine

Everything I have ever had from Acer, back to the 286 days, has been a nightmare. I don't touch Acer.

HP...their support (I think) is awesome. They've replaced numerous parts without asking questions for my friend. So remember to take the 3-year warranty and you'll be safe :)

Same thing happened to my friend and his Acer.

Acer, excellent support and much more bang for your buck

Choose HP

Had mine for 3 yrs, its going the hand-me-down route now. The battery still works, compared to a 2 yr-old Acer (and Dell!!!) laptop's battery that's dead as a doornail. Same quality aspect on keyboard, frame etc.

Only thing about HP laptops is screen quality - in my opinion. The resolution is not nearly as good as you get from Dell or Fujitsu, even the ACER - working op apps such as Visio is seriously frustrating.

Support? Hell, they're all supported by I-CSS in Midrand, those guys are as useless as a .... in a whorehouse!

I've got a TravelMate 800 that's spent significant chunks of its working life in places NO non-ruggedised notebook should be and it's absolutely handled what I've put it through ..I'd get another one again in a heartbeat (tho' I'd love a tablet-style machine 'cos laptops get difficult to handle on buildings and radio masts!) OK, the battery doesn't give me nearly the life it used to two years ago, but it's still reasonably usable. Of course, as always, YMMV
