Been looking for a notebook for a while. Due to recent unplanned circumstances, my budget is a bit tight again. Now when I hear Acer, it leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth. Mind you, I haven't touched one since 10+ years ago.

On paper this one ticks all the boxes I wanted in a laptop / notebook, except for not having a QHD Display and not being 16:10 screen ratio.

Good performance for a low powered device, dedicated GPU for a bit of boost in my workload, great battery life, relatively thin, non-plastic design for most part. Affordable. But it has Acer written on it. Just short of 20K from Amazon.

Any thoughts or advice on this or something better for around 20K? (not mac. Done.)

Review on the Notebook

We've owned two - one brilliant and one terrible. The terrible one was just in another league altogether but it was a cheaper machine.
That one looks like it's at the upper end so I'd suggest it's good.
Reviews on Amazon look solid.

Note Amazon's price:
Estimated Total cost: $1,276.09 including Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to South Africa

So R20k all in.
I guess my other concern, as I have never spent this much on amazon, is how amazon/manufacturer will handle the warranty after 30 days, if at all.

Seen good reviews for the Acer Swift X, if you can wait a while it might launch in SA. Also an option but no dedicated GOU

Curious if anyone here has bought a laptop from amazon and what brands generally have an international warranty or is it dependent on the model ?

So far I have only seen very very very limited models from Dell and Lenovo.

Combined with the world wide shortages, and even location, you have almost no options. Trying to contact Amazon warranty department for other products is a dead end.

The issue is it’s not very clear from Amazon, basically you have two months or such then warranty issues are between you and the manufacturer generally. This doesn’t apply to Amazon products, also it depends on who the seller actually is, also this doesn’t apply in the UK if I remember but again none of this is really clear.

Basically you’ve done a grey import, your warranty could be honoured locally if there’s no issues with distributors and such.

International warranty is sometimes referred to as next-day business warranty, so it’s normally that range of models.
Dell => XPS etc.
Lenovo => Thinkpad etc.

My understanding is the Dell business warranty just needs to be activated or transferred depending on if new or refurb, @Flashgear would know best as those I know that bought from him had no issues getting problems fixed.

Thanks yeah looking for a new gaming laptop in Nov/Dec but SA prices are ridiculous so might import will just have to check out the warranties

I have been looking for months now and don't get answers from amazon or manufacturers. So frustrating!! So now I am just going to buy "used" locally but still with warranty attached.
