My Acer 5542g won't post bios.
Symptoms:
When I push the power button the cpu fan comes on as normal, DVD-rom makes the usual startup noise probably looking for bootable media and the blue power light comes on (blue). However, the screen remains blank i.e. not even backlit. Out of like 50 on and off power cycles it randomly starts up. It has been starting up lesser as of late. When it does randomly startup I can use the laptop as normal and if I switch it off and try starting it it works like normal but if I leave it off for an extended time it just gives the same problem.
What I've done to troubleshoot:
When it did startup I've managed to checked ram. I tried one module at a time (2 x 2gb) in each slot and both work. I have also tried swapping the ram between the slots and they both work. I've cleaned the ram connectors and tried to blow away any possible dust in the ram slot.
I have checked the hard drive which is a WD Scorpio Blue and it works 100%. I have even checked the smart status. Its got some mileage on it but no read errors, reallocations, etc despite its age (2009). I've currently got it in an external case copying everything over to the server.
I've checked on Google and most sites suggested disconnecting he battery and charger and dissipate all power by pressing the power button but this doesn't work. Supposedly, Acer laptops store static energy which messes around with the equipment. Its a widespread issue!!!
I've tried flashing a new Bios in a vain attempt at recovering it and no success. It does absolutely nothing.
I don't know what the problem is with it
. I'm trying to seek forumite advice before I rip it open and there's no guarantee I'll be able to put it back together again
