Acer X163Wb ... hmmm

I was at Incredible Connection today and once again spotted these small Acer 16" LCDs. There are 2 models, one seems to put out better colour.

Anyone ever played with these little LCDs? Resolution is just 1366x768 and only VGA input and they're R899 or something. Probably cheaper if I can source from Tarsus.

Complete waste of cash, but I've always wanted some small secondary screen to play TV shows on or put up stats or show playlists on while I work and not have it eat up a ton of desk space.

Anyone ever bought one of them for just those purposes?
 
Thats actually possibly not a bad idea for my 2 servers and monitoring systems... 3 or 4 of those little things tacked onto the wall could be good actually....

I'll check with Tarsus next week or something and see what the deal is. Otherwise I might just have to buy 2 things from IC in the span of a month! *gasp*
 
Yeah....

Also having small WS monitors is a good idea since I know i'm going to have to scale up the amount of info I report on relatively soon, so if the basic screen is laid out in WS.. then I can upgrade it to a large flatscreen panel quite easily.
 
So have I. :D Acer sux for that kind of stuff. Their notebooks also used to be super dodgey stuff.

Would prefer the better brand too, but looks like that Samsung would be harder to find. Will only tell when these darn distributors open up again.

One can also get a 7" USB LCD from places such as thinkgeek (http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/usb-gadgets/bfa3/). Very cool for just the little bit of extra info being visible without adding clutter to the main desktop. Unfortunately I understand they're quite expensive for what they are.
 
So I bought one of these today. They had the HB version and the W version. HB looked slightly bigger even though it was listed as a 15.4" and the W was a 15.6". The HB has the glossy screen and the W is anti-glare. Thought I'd go with the anti-glare since I do have a window off to the side and suspect I'd be watching myself in the monitor glow in the evenings. :P

On hindsight, perhaps the glossy would've been better due to better contrast.

It's a sweet little monitor ideal for what I need it for. Just a cheapy TN panel so it comes with all the nasty viewing angle problems, etc, and the washed out colouring from the anti-glare. But for its intended job this is irrelevant. :) Going to have to source that HP monitor I want sometime soon.

Reason I didn't wait to get to Tarsus to find it? IC had it for R799.95. :) It was listed at R899 last week. To top it off they only had the demo model available so I actually got it for R720. :) Cheap cheap... but it does mean if it konks out they'll have to give me a bigger one. :D

Problem? I should check my specs before deciding mid-drive to somewhere else to go and buy a monitor. Motherboard has DVI-D, won't take the DVI-A to VGA adapter. :P Guess I'll need to sort that out somehow. Good reason to buy another monitor. :D

They had the Samsung as well. It was R1.2K. Think the difference is Acer has no dynamic contract while the Samsung does. Picture looked the same, but the Samsung looked wobbly.
 
Hmmm... well that buzz didn't last for long. I think I'm returning it tomorrow. It's just all over the place with the backlight. :P

Wonder if the glossy will be much better. :D
