I'd like to learn how to play an acoustic guitar. Where can one get a good one for R1000?
I've seen second hand ones going for R500 at Cash Crusaders, I'm just not sure if they are worth it or not.

best is go for a electric at a pawn shop, did that myself to start learning.
The electric is a bit harder with the note press on the neck and that will help you later with acoustic

Thank you. For some reason I prefer acoustic.

Look for an old Yamaha acoustic on Gumtree, they are reasonably cheap and always winners.

Got myself a steel string acoustic for R500 at Cash Converters Woodmead on Saturday.

OP some advice. Two places to look for when buying second hand (or even new for that matter)

Check to make sure the bridge is not pulling off the body.

Check the neck join. Tug the neck slightly to see if it's still firmly connected to the body.

These two problems are the most common with second hands guitars especially ones that have been dropped.

Thank you. I will check again and see if I missed those

First person I've seen that advises this. I find the strings on the acoustic much more difficult to manipulate, meaning that when I went to electric the strings felt like butter.

I'd learn on acoustic.

Yeah I dropped mine. Luckily it was wood on wood and nothing happened.
