Got a Adaptec SATAConnect 1205SA PCI card but it does not seem to work with my Gigabyte GA-EG31M-S2 MB

With the card inserted the pc boots up and passes the BIOS screen but once it gets to the Adaptec screen just after that it just freezes. Pressing F3 for setup does nothing and hitting capslock also does not make the led on the keyboard light up.

The Adaptec card uses a Sil3112A chipset.
The motherboard uses Intel chipset, 82801G (ICH7 Family) IDE & N10/ICH7 Family SATA IDE.
My BIOS is the latest available version.

Any ideas?

I see Adaptec has a newer BIOS version for the card which I will try.
Sil also has some very new BIOS versions for this chipset but I'm a bit wary of trying them on a Adaptec card in case they did some custom stuff (which is doubtful) but I reckon I'll give it a go anyway as the card was just lying in a drawer anyway.

I've had a similar issue in the past, especially when plugging 2 or more controllers in of the same type. Normally a firmware upgrade fixes the issue, in one case having 4 cards plugged in rendered a bit flip every few Gbyte of transfer which resulted in me chucking out all the cards, afaik they were sil3114 based. Can't be sure tho.

I decided to go straight to the latest Sil bios and things seem to be working fine.
