I need to install IIS (Internet Information Services) in Windows XP Pro off the original CD and to do this I need to run Add/Remove Windows Components in Control Panel.

The problem is that I cannot as when I click the A/RWC button it runs through the setup procedure without allowing me any options to do what it says - add or remove programs, but ends the wizard instead.

I even tried it off the disc, but it does the same thing.

I need to install IIS to run a specific program.

Any ideas?

Try the microsoft install cleanup utility first. It will remove all unfinished installations from your system.

I am assuming that you mean "Disk Cleanup" under System Tools.

I gave it a bash, but it still won't let me add or remove components. Just runs through to the finish.

Also try reloading the the service pack, if any is loaded at all. Should be on Windows XP service pack 2.

Thanks MrJones. It now gives me the options, but I am about ready to fling this ruddy PC across the room.

When I click on install it gives me a multitude of "setup cannot copy the file ####.dll and ####.exe"

WTF? I am now at my wits end.

Just hit retry, or keep the R button held in on the keyboard. You could try another XP disc, if you have one, like ghalied said ;)

I only have the one source CD. I tried the files in folder i386 on the PC and I tried the files on the source CD. Neither worked.

Hitting retry made no difference as it just kept giving the same error.

*sigh* Why me?
