I'm using this superb set of equipment with a Xonar DX.
As you may know the Xonar supports 7.1 surround sound, while the Z-5500 is only 5.1.
Has someone tried to connect two additional speakers to the sound card, to get truly 7.1?
Will it be worth investing on a 2.0 speaker system to that effect?

chances are you probably wont even notice the difference between 5.1 and 7.1 in most cases.
how are you hooking up your 5500s ? with an optical cable ?

I added 2 bookshelf speakers running of a pioneer a-117 stereo amp to my z5500's, but only to fill in the frequency gaps the ****ty sattelites have.

I connected the Z-5500 to the Xonar using both: Toslink (Optical) for movies & the 3 stereo-mini connectors for Games.
I think the question is really how different is a 7.1 from a 5.1 setup.
