Jumping the gun a bit as my first battery will only be arriving this week (Revov R200) but I am already in discussion about a second battery and my installer suggested I don't wait too long as it's better to have 2 batteries of a similar age growing old together than adding a second one much later down the line.

My question is how long is too long?
Is too long time or cycle dependant?

Many thanks

I added another battery 6 months later, but my advice would be to do it asap as prices soar and before ANC think of more ways to tax solar equipment to fund their "lifestyle".

My answer has always been less is better but never quantified it.

@ScottulusMaximus How happy are your batteries if they need to work with others, manufactured a month or more apart?

this added my 4th 4 months later. 2 years later all still good

Sooner the better as you say but within a couple months shouldn't be a problem. I'd say look at the max being 25% of the rated life, either cycles or warranty period to be safe.

Added my 2nd battery 3 months after the first then the 3rd battery a year after that. Overall State of Health is sitting at 99%

I added a second battery a year later and had some initial issues, even though they were the same brand and model. Issues in getting the voltage balanced, having the battery percentages displaying correctly and suspect they have different software versions too.

It took me about a day of troubleshooting and FORTUNATELY it was resolved. But I was already contemplating scenarios where I'd have to sell the older battery to get a second of the same batch of the newer one.

This was after it took me about 3 weeks to find stock of the one I needed.

Keep this all in mind and if you can, rather get a matched set soon as possible.

Also have Revov and added third one after 6 months.
I was stupid not to install it at the same time (cost and performance).

So if you have cash install ASAP.
