And makes them fuzzy.
This in turn annoys people, and annoyed people start wars, which creates shortages of RAM. So all told, it's pretty bleak.
I know that MS software (tries to) operate at 96 dpi. And working with 96 dpi images does not yield positive results. Creating an email signature, Outlook appears to resize everything that exceeds something along the lines of 640 px. And if you delve into the signature HTML file and set the image dimensions to the CORRECT settings (and replace the image01 it creates with one of the CORRECT settings, then it still thinks you are silly and ignores what you have done.
