Anyone know which media player allows you to adjust/specify the position of the subtitles?

They usually appear on the movie itself while there is ample space for it in the bottom black border which is where I would like to move them to.

Well if it's not hard coded subs you could use Media Player Classic HC and look under Options, Subtitles, Default Style, Screen Alignment & Margins and adjust the settings there.

Trying that but adjusting the top & bottom margins makes no difference. Subs are not hard coded but pulled in via a separate .sub file

Ok, you can not adjust any subtitle positions except for .srt files by the looks of things. Problem I have now the .srt I downloaded is out of sync with the video. Wtf has everything always have to be such a ball ache?

In MPC:HC this is the way I got it to work:

Change to VMR9 (Renderless), it's under Options -> Playback -> Output.

Then go to Options -> Subtitles and tick 'Override Placement' and set Vertical to around 100. You will probably have to play with it a bit to get it just right for your sub size, and ime setting it over 100 will sometimes just reset the subtitle to default, which makes it seem like it does nothing.

Sorry for the double post, won't let me edit for some reason.

The above worked fine for me using a .sub file.

Thanks you! That did the trick. Now I can look forward to watching MW tonight followed by the rest of my foreign language films ;)

Well I did a little more tinkering, because it is really erratic with .sub files. For me it works under EVR too, but the catch is that it seems to reset every time I open MPC and even though it shows the right vertical offset, I have to adjust it while the movie is running to get the subtitles to actually move. Bit of a ball ache, but at least it works.

I wish the guys would just use SRT files by default instead, would make life so much easier.
