Hi all, just a heads up. Adobe finally released Creative Cloud - CC yesterday at 8pm PST (about 6am South African time). You can download all the apps by updating Adobe Application Manager. Obviously the Adobe servers are taking strain so downloads are a bit slow.

Enjoy

Adobe Creative Cloud

For all those stuck... this will install the latest CC Manager.

If you want to save the downloaded app installers for Mac go here:

Mac: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Installers/adobeTemp

in adobeTemp you will find the downloaded app - it is a hidden folder and will get deleted immediately after the app is installed

NOPE THAT DONT WORK

If you want another language like Arabic, make sure you select the language in AAM first BEFORE downloading your software.

I dont thonk the trials are available if u not a subscription member - one thing ive noticed with cc is that all the apps are much faster, photoshop opens in 3sec, illustrator in 2sec, bridge is so much faster as well. CC fot me is well worth it.

Tried looking in Terminal?

Shardie: you said that CC loads a hell of a lot faster. May I ask what your config is?

How do you feel about this rental situation? loads of people are slamming it online but my thinking is this:

CS Design = R15000 (give or take) = 30 months worth of rental (2.5 years). Which beats Adobe's release cycle (not that I remain up to date - I skip several versions at a time).

No I havnt looked there - Ill give it sometime until I can find a full download from a torrent. I just hate having to have to download everytime I want to install.

Specs:
MacBook Pro - 17-inch Mid 2010 (2.53GHz i5)
8GB DDR3 Ram
External Monitor - Dell U2711 (27-inch) via Display Port
HDD : SATA 1 - OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD (60GB)
HDD : SATA 2 - Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid 750GB

Please Note: I was running the SSD BEFORE Adobe CC came out - which was CS6. Also the SSD only contains my OS and Applications. My HOME folder is on the 750GB drive BUT BUT BUT my LIBRARY folder is on the SSD as well, with symbolic links to the other folders - Music, Documents, Photos etc etc. I used to use 2 x 750GB Hybrids on Raid 0 and had brilliant speeds and 1.5GB HDD space, but since Im using the SSD in this configuration, the speeds are much better.

Adobe CC Subscription
Yes alot of people are complaining about the subscription but I think it's a personal thing. Adobe CS6 Master Edition in this country is extremely expensive so if you do the math and take out a subscription, it will basically take you 3-5 years to have paid off CS6 Master Edition not to mention you get alot more in the cloud than the boxed versions. I always remain up to date with software and to ME I think Adobe has really nailed it on the head this time with features and integration - especially with mobile devices. I love using Adobe Ideas on the iPad and Kuler. For what you getting, I think the full package is way worth it.

This is what I did, I took the money for a CS6 package, put it into another hardly used bank account, and use that to pay the subscription every month. Whats the difference?

People argue that the software is never their own, which software is? Also the fact that I can install on 2 machines Windows or Mac.

The other thing is that Adobe has opened up this world that I was not exposed to simply because I could not code blah blah, not using the new tools I can focus on my designs and have less hassles with code, not to mention InDesign with its ease of use and integration for tablet apps or books - I love it. Now I can offer clients a much better solution.

Im sure for some people it works out more using the subscription, but like I say, each one is different but for me - SUBSCRIPTION EYES CLOSED.

Adobe has already given me a free month because of a small issue I complained about. I use the online support chat ALL THE TIME, so there is always support.

Also now that I have BEHANCE, (although I also have my own website). its great to just be able to upload my work and ideas.

There is no other company that gives all these solutions in one package and for a couple of rands a month - worth it. In South Africa we spend more than that a month on total crap - DSTV example. If you are serious about improving yourself in the design arena - I say take the plunge - One small job a month pays for the subscription as well.

Good Luck

Your thinking is similar to mine. When I am back on ADSL (line dead) I will have a closer look at CC.

FoSho. If it works for you, knock yourself out. Else there is always GIMP, and other who know what vector apps. Let us know what you decided.

Gimp etc is fine but I have been using Photoshop since v3 - no, not CS3, actual 3. Mac OS 7.6 - I think I still have the install CD lying around somewhere. I never liked Freehand so when illustrator came out, I was happy to teach myself.

I always used quark but there pricing is just ridiculous so when I bought my CS2 box (Pro I think it was called back then) I learnt ID. Learning new stuff simply doesn't appeal.

@Shardie a question for you if you don't mind.

I have been using Photoshop for about 12 years. I mainly use it to edit photos, restore damaged photos, photo manipulation (my favourite pastime) and graphics design.

I recently started using After Effects to edit videos and adding effects to videos. Earlier you said you use all Adobe software.

Which do you recommend/prefer for video editing, After Effects or Premier?

Edit: I guess you don't use any of the abovementioned products...

Yeah I used Photoshop way back in the day, CorelDraw, Quark etc.... but today I love the total integration Adobe has done. I used the Macromedia products as well. I eventually ditched Corel, Quark and the rest for Adobe.

I think as a designer you constantly have to learn new tools as the market demands this. I have clients who want websites then in the same breathe they say they want it to look good on an iPad etc. Now if I had not kept up to date with software and technology - I bet my client would have gone elsewhere.

Also, now I can come up with ideas my clients never thought of - therefore creating more work for myself.
