Good riddance I say -- hopefully the end to the pointless arguments...

Flash was good in its hey day as it drove the industry forward i.e. HTML5 would not be as good as it is, had Macromedia not driven the standard on to the web and competitively forward ito features.

Let's all agree with Adobe -- it has past its sell by date, and needed to go... Hopefully we'll also soon see the end of the desktop plugins.

On a positive note:
Adobe is pushing CSS Shaders technology as a Web standard to advance what's possible with Web sites and Web apps, and it's got Apple's cooperation.
With Adobe's help HTML5 and CSS3 can only get better...

It's not really a pointless argument, Droid.

I didn't even look for the issues and stumbled upon them. I'm a Volvo fan and the one video that I wanted to show my friends on iPad, isn't available. I didn't search for that video specifically - but I sat red faced when my shiny iPad couldn't do it ...

As mentioned in the other thread, I wanted to show a friend a Josies Fields song. No worries - I'll pop over to MySpace and ... Require Flash ... ok, let's go to Musica .... Require Flash ... maybe her site itself will have music .... Require Flash. Within 30 minutes I'd hit a dead end multiple times without trying.

Every product and technology has a sell by date and Steve called this one too early. Even with this announcement, I can bet you now that I'll hit a site in 2 years that I can't view.

Apple got it wrong

Sorry but this is imo a point-less discussion and a little off the point of these articles (ultimately you may differ in opinion, but I also don't have to agree).

You had a choice, you could have chosen to go with a platform recognized for its support of flash -- but instead you chose a platform that is acknowledged to not support flash -- why are you therefore surprised when it cannot play a flash clip?

Apple would not be the Apple they are today, if they followed the trend. Granted taking the road less trodden is going to have a few bumps...

The end result is this case; is that Adobe have acknowledged that it is better to support HTML5 than to try to get Flash working on each of the various platforms.

In the case of HTML5, the device manufacturer / OS manufacturer ensures compliance with industry / Internet standards (at no cost to Adobe).

Practically this was a losing game (financially for Adobe) to continually increase its developer pool to try to stay ahead of the curve with HTML5.

History shows clearly they could not keep up; hence it is a good decision to get out, and focus on an area where they can make a difference -- more specifically in an area that is more in line with their core business and profitability.

Btw did you btw try the app that sandmanm34 recommended http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/374538-iPad-2-disadvantages?p=7184793&viewfull=1#post7184793; Post 306 in iPad 2 disadvantages?

Btw I just tried sandmanm34 recommendation (Photon flash web browser); Josie Fields sounds quite nice on an iPad2; both her site + myspace played as expected. Yes admittedly it's not elegant (not integrated into safari re separate browser) but it works...

ps Nandos works (no need to starve because of your iPad), also youtube videos are fine, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYmidM7fMSs .
