For some unknown reason, Easyfile only works with Adobe Reader x32 and not x64.

But Adobe in its wisdom says stuff you, I'm going to delete x32 and just replace it with x64 without consent of any kind.

I uninstall x64, replace with x32 and the client can work for the day before Adobe does its overnight update back to x64.

How do I stop Adobe from doing this, but still permit updates of the installed x32 release?

I don't find much on Google - lots of queries, but working solutions, none that I can find.

This is the official response from Adobe:-
Yes, this is a new key introduced. Please try the following stpes

1. Uninstall 64-bit Reader installed on the machine.

2. Restart the machine (optional step)

3. Create the key to block the upgrade

  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown]
    "bUpdateToSingleApp"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown]
    "bUpdateToSingleApp"=dword:00000000
4. Install 32-bit Reader from https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

  • select OS & langage from drop down
  • select 32-bit Reader from drop down and then install 32-bit Reader.

The regedit above - are they saying create a new key under FeatureLockDown, or create a new Dword key in the FeatureLockdown root folder ?

Any help appreciated.

Also under Services - Adobe Update I changed it to Guest, then disabled Guest.
Task scheduler - Disable the Service, then go in and remove the Triggers.
Hosts file, think the list to block adobe anything is on github.

Just disable the update altogether man ... it's not that important ... not like they bring out an update every other day ??

So I need to remove this scheduled task - how, I don't see a delete/remove option ?

Edit: Perhaps I should have read link supplied which tells me how to remove it ....

That said, do I want to follow 8 paragraphs of instructions when the very next comment is

Still updates automatically to 64bit......

Done a couple of laptops and all stayed on x32 except one, one sob keeps updating to x64 so decided to keep the service under services.msc but just use a different account other than system.
So far 3 days and no update to x64

Thanks all.

Found this which clarifies the regedit process -

Am going to try this again, but from the article comments I'm still skeptical as to whether it will stop the updates.

Thanks Adobe for deciding what's best for me. :rolleyes:

Edit: And thanks Adobe for deleting the x32 install file from Downloads so I have to go through the whole process again.

Sorry, was AFK

The main thing here is, Easyfile must come to the party .... they should have years ago :X3:

Everyone is moving away from 32bit ... Even MS win11 is 64bit only.

Best is to stop ALL updates like others have mentioned with their "how to's"

Find the adobe updater task in Task scheduler, edit it to run in X years time.

I am just using foxit pdf with easyfile. Doesn't seem to have the issue when updating as adobe has.
