Since 'updating?' to 10.1.3 Adobe Reader , I am unable to open loads of PDF files ? Catalogues etc just remain black. It appears as if millions of people are effected and there are loads of 'solutions' but sadly none of which I understand how to do being a Mac idiot of note.
Any help out there in 2 letter words only?
Thanks,
Duncan:confused::confused::confused:

Can you still open them using the default app (Preview)?

Let me find out if I can. In the meantime , what is Adobe Reader X ? Also people are writing about reloading version 9 , how would I do that maybe ? I have a backup HD but not too clued up as to the mechanics of it. I plug it in and it shows me various dates that I did back ups.

The simplest way should be to delete the reader app (btw - is there a reason you needed to install it in the first place? Preview usually does a great job) and download the version you want from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/

If I open preview and click on a pdf file it immediately changes back to safari and hangs

Well that doesnt sound healthy. What happens if you right click on a pdf, scroll down to open with, and then select Preview?

my suggestion is to test using IE or Firefox (if you can).
I have previously encountered this type of issue and it was a browser issue at the time.

Another option would be to download the PDF, then open using the native application (outside of the browser)

In response to a previous question regarding Adobe Reader X - it is version 10 which is the latest.

Ta, been reading forums for the last few hours, version 10 seems to be a massive train smash and is difficult to uninstall according to experts, what hope for me….

tRon , I sell locks. You want to be in a quizz about locks ?????

to open a lock is easy.If u cant get it open you are clearly not using enough explosives...

also never again in the future use software that has not been tested by the public for at least a couple of weeks /months.

Did the Alt / click, the file downloaded and I found it eventually and it opened. Thanks all. Why is it not easier to find after downloading? Had to go to finder , downloads, today and then I found it. Can it no be made somehow to open after it downloads?

If you're using Safari go to View and then Show Downloads. You can also add it to your Toolbar if you want. Just go to Customise Toolbar (also under view) and drag the downloads icon to where you want it.
