The flash-based version (for new filings) works. Trying to use the Adobe-Reader version (needed for accesing older returns) gives an error:
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Problem is, I seem to have the most current version of AR. Is this a SARS FUBAR, or is Adobe behind in updating AR for Macs?

Adobe problem... Reader is 32 bit only and Safari (assuming that's the browser you use) runs in 64 bit natively. If you 'right click' on Safari's icon you and select 'Get Info' you will see a little tick box 'Run in 32 bit mode' on the info panel. Tick that, relaunch Safari and you should be good to go. Took me a while to figure this one out...

redcliff, you get three gold stars for that! I was about to resort to an old windows xp machine to get last years return. Many thanks.

Ha ha - same here - had to use a Windows (ugggh) machine to do mine last year. If only I knew... ;)

All I had to do was actually launch Adobe Reader, then it worked?... will check the 32 bit tick box though :)

same issue popped up last year actually, adobe, time to upgrade your **** to 64 bit and get with the times!!

One day when SARS figured out that they have painted themselves into a corner (they owe me money - not a lot, but any amount is a spoke in their wheels, apparently) I might have to do one of these, so I'm curious.

How does this work? Do you have to use reader in a browser to submit something? Or is it just to download a pdf?

Personally, given Adobe's crappy security record of late, and given how incredibly bloated Adobe Reader had become, I just don't have it installed, and even back when I had, I always got rid of the browser plugin.
