How the hell do you switch this thing off? I click on cancel all updates but it just keeps on coming back. :(

Which Adobe product is it? In Acrobat Pro, I went to "Edit", "Preferences" (or CTRL+K) and select/look for "Updates" in the list - select the option "Do not automatically check for critical updates".

If you have more than one Adobe product, you will probably have to do the same on each product.

whenever i open up adobe reader, the updater starts

my firewall denies it access but the app still opens up, though it can't access the internet.

are you talking about the adobe updater for the cs3 suites. annoying isn't it?

the only thing i have managed to do is untick all the apps it must update. That bastard stole 400Mb of my bandwidth by just running without requesting first.

msconfig doesn't work for this i don't think. well i don't see it in the startup items.

maybe look on google.

Just got the bill from Vodacom for my 3G card, they only thing I could blame the usage on is Adobe Updater that went to town on my Data Bundle  254Mb over allocation

The pest keeps updating when you least want it to.

adobe poor programmers

If MSCONFIG is not showing the entry as a startup item, but the item is appearing in the task tray it can only be in one location in the registry. That is in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
MSCONFIG doesn't show the Runonce entry because it doesn't expect software providers like Adobe to leave the entry there on the next reboot.
This is either: an oversight on Abobe's part ie negligence. OR they're being naughty.
